Second Step Program
As a school counselor, part of my job means going into the classroom to educate students on developing skills necessary to get along with others. The program that Sullivan uses is called Second Step: A Violence Prevention Curriculum (Committee for Children, 2002). This program helps students develop social and emotional skills centered around empathy, impulse control and problem solving, and anger management. At Sullivan, Second Step is taught by me, the school counselor, in kindergarten through third grade. In grades four through eight, Second Step is taught by the classroom teachers. Please see the Second Step page on this website for further information, or connect to the Committee for Children website on the bottom of this page.
