Bus Reimbursement

Families who provide transportation for their students will be eligible for reimbursement.

Families who qualified last year will need to re-apply for the 2022-23 school year.

Who is eligible for transportation reimbursement?

Transportation reimbursements are available to families of students in grades preK-12 and Transition Plus who transport their students to school rather than riding the school bus.

What are the requirements to qualify for transportation reimbursement?

Proof of insurance and a valid driver's license are required.

Once your family is approved for a transportation reimbursement, your student will be removed from their morning and afternoon bus stop and families will need to transport their students every day that school is in session.

Why transportation reimbursement?

The nationwide shortage of bus drivers continues, including here at MPS, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made it worse. Families who are able to transport their students to school free up some space on the bus for students whose families cannot provide their own transportation.

Calculating Mileage

Reimbursements are calculated using the federal rate of $.56 per mile for mileage to and from school each day, based on mileage indicated on Google Maps, for each child -- and families will receive checks for this amount approximately monthly.

For example, if your student’s home address is 2.5 miles from their school, you will receive $56 monthly: $0.56 (per mile) x 5 miles (home to school and back in a day) x 5 days x 4 weeks.

A family with students attending the same school is eligible for reimbursement for one trip to and from school daily, not for multiple trips to and from the same school.
