Transportation reimbursement is available to Elementary, Middle and High school students using yellow bus service.
The nationwide shortage of bus drivers continues -- including here at Minneapolis Public Schools -- and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made it worse. Our efforts to space students farther apart on buses for health and safety reasons means more buses are required, but health considerations means even fewer drivers are available.
One way we’re hoping to create more space on our buses is by encouraging families who currently use the school bus to consider transporting their children themselves. By doing this, you’ll be freeing up some space on the bus for students who cannot provide their own transportation.
If this is something your family can do, you may be reimbursed for some of the cost of providing that transportation. Please fill out the MPS Transportation Reimbursement Request to provide the name, address and school for each of the MPS students in your family who are eligible for MPS transportation, but who you will be transporting to and from school. Proof of insurance and valid Driver's License will be needed in order to reimburse families.
Transportation reimbursements are available to families of students in grades prek-12 and Transition Plus. High school students using Go To Cards from Metro Transit are not eligible for this reimbursement as the focus is on yellow bus transportation service. High school students using special education bus service are able to participate in the reimbursement option.
Thank you for helping us keep MPS students safe and healthy!
