Volunteering at Sullivan
At Sullivan, we welcome our families and community members to come to the school and volunteer. There are a variety of options such as working with students on reading or math, helping out in the media center, going on field trips, helping with classroom special activities, and more. Students are enriched by volunteer interaction, and we hope our volunteers feel the same way!
The district has an application process that is available here. To volunteer at Sullivan, please contact our Family and Community Liaison, Hassan Omar, at 612.668.5035, or by email at Hassan.Omar@mpls.k12.mn.us
Volunteers are required to complete the vaccination certification form:
English, Spanish, Somali and Hmong forms are on the Staff COVID Resource page.
Volunteers may complete the MPS COVID-19 Vaccination & Testing Certification Form- Volunteers online form in place of the paper form.
Read more about who needs to complete this form and when, and what are sites’ responsibilities on the Vaccination Requirement FAQs.
UPDATE as of 8/18/21:
Visitors and volunteers
Visitors and volunteers will be allowed in schools to support academic and programming activities. This guidance is subject to change due to COVID-19 rates. All visitors and volunteers must follow MPS COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Face coverings are required in all MPS buildings.
Parent/Guardian/Family Volunteers: Volunteer Applications are available online or check in with your school for a copy of a paper application. Please be patient as you reach out to your school about volunteer opportunities as many Volunteer Liaisons return to work in early September.
Community Member Volunteers: Volunteer Applications are available online. If there is a school that you are interested in volunteering at, you are welcome to contact the school directly. If you would like help finding a good volunteer fit, please email volunteer.services@mpls.k12.mn.us or call 612-668-0128.
Background Checks: any visitors or volunteers that may have unsupervised contact with students must have a background check completed. MPS will begin processing volunteer background checks in early October as we must prioritize new hire/staff background checks. We ask for your patience and understanding during this time.
What can volunteers do in the meantime? Volunteers can support schools in fully supervised roles including classroom support, back-to-school events, recess duty, bus arrival/dismissal, and more, as long as they are fully supervised. Volunteer roles vary by school and can evolve as the year progresses and when we are able to process background checks.
Volunteer Expectations and Orientation: All MPS volunteers must read and agree to the MPS Volunteer Expectations. Volunteer Orientation will take place at the school level.
