Hello and welcome to Kindergarten!

My name is Ms. Melany. I've been teaching kindergarten for the past 3 years and love it! Additionally, I have been at Anne Sullivan since 2009 and have had various titles over the years. I first started as a Reading Corps literacy tutor, then moved into being an Associate Educator, the Reading Corps internal coach, and finally the building sub- as I completed my teaching license.

My fiancé and I recently bought a home in Northeast Minneapolis, and we love living in this great city! We enjoy bringing our 3 year-old dog, Beans, to the local dog parks, spending time outside, and being on the lakes.

I love teaching kindergarten, and this year your child will learn a lot! We’ll be practice our letter names and sounds, learn how to read, and how to write. We’ll learn about numbers and how to solve addition and subtraction problems. In kindergarten, we also focus on social/emotional learning like how to be a good friend and how to work together.

To help your child do their best, please read with them as much as you can, and ask them about their school day. Practice things like tying shoes, zipping coats, and dressing themselves for the winter! Our classroom could always use things like tissues, ziploc bags, and disinfectant wipes.
